  • SWC President Sandy Walters will again chair a session titled “Cooperative Solutions in Federal Environmental Permitting” at the 23rd annual Florida Chamber of Commerce Environmental Permitting and Growth Management Short Course at the Marco Island Marriott July 21-23, 2010. Panel members will include Jacksonville District US Army Corps of Engineers Chief Donnie Kinard, Florida Audubon Vice President of Policy Eric Draper, and prominent Florida environmental and land use attorney Ernie Cox, along with Ms. Walters. Last year the session was very well attended and comments included, “This was very inspiring and generates hope that we can develop more efficient and effective ways to find solutions to environmental issues.” Below is the session description:

COOPERATIVE SOLUTIONS IN FEDERAL ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING A new age is coming to environmental permitting, and it is being led by the regulatory division of the Jacksonville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Cooperative approaches to developing projects that maximize environmental benefits while serving the needs of applicants have shown remarkable results in recent years. This session will explore several Florida projects, ranging from conceptual permits for large parcels to maintenance dredging of a harbor in a national marine sanctuary. Members of the panel represent all perspectives, including permitting, private sector consulting, environmental groups, and land owners. Audience participation will be encouraged, with the goal of fostering greater cooperative efforts as the most beneficial and cost-effective approach from all perspectives.

    The session members are:
Donnie Kinard, Regulatory Chief, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District
Eric Draper, Vice President of Policy, Florida Audubon Society
Ernie Cox, President of Family Lands Remembered, Inc.
    Sandra Walters, President of SWC
