Sandy Walters to speak at Habitat Restoration conference

Shelli Braynard teaches Marine Data Collection class at Florida Keys Community College

SWC Senior Biologist Shelli Braynard is again teaching a course titled “Marine Data Collection” at Florida Keys Community College’s Key West campus in the fall 2010 term. This for-credit, full-semester course provides both in-class and field experience with a number of marine habitats in the Florida Keys, including seagrasses and coral reefs.


Sandy Walters moderates AWRA seminars

SWC President Sandy Walters recently served as moderator for sessions at two American Water Resources Association (AWRA) Florida chapter seminars. On July 16, 2010, she moderated a session on EPA’s proposed numeric nutrient criteria at the Key West annual meeting. On September 24, 2010, she organized the panel, moderated, and spoke in a session on successful approaches to seagrass restoration and longterm protection at the regional seminar in Fort Lauderdale.


Sandy Walters reappointed to SFRPC

SWC President, Sandy Walters, was recently reappointed by Governor Charlie Crist to the South Florida Regional Planning Council and also received Florida Senate confirmation (click to see Department of State and Florida Senate certificates). She is presently serving as immediate past chair of the Council, and has been a board member since 2005.


Sandy Walters chairs session at Environmental Permitting Summer School

SWC President Sandy Walters again moderated and participated in a session titled “Cooperative Solutions in Federal Environmental Permitting” at the 23rd annual Florida Chamber of Commerce Environmental Permitting and Growth Management Short Course at the Marco Island Marriott July 21-23, 2010. Panel members included representatives from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Audubon, and private property owners.
